Jajpur-sukinda Railway Line Mooted

BHUBANESWAR: Finance Minister Prafulla Chandra Ghadei proposed construction of a new railway line between Jajpur and Sukinda in view of rapid industrialisation of the area.

Ghadei today presided over a high-level meeting at the Secretariat for the improvement of Jajpur, Keonjhar Road and Jakhpura railway stations. Railway officials present at the meeting promised that a detailed project report on the feasibility of the railway line would be submitted to the Railway Board by January- end.

The Finance Minister assured the railway officials that there would not be shortage of funds for the project. Jajpur collector D Das suggested that the project should be taken up in public, private partnership (PPP) mode.

People’s representatives from Jajpur and Jakhpura area who attended the meeting demanded stoppage of fast passengers at Jakhpura station. They also demanded halt of Express trains at Baripada station. Besides, some Express trains should stop at Jakhpura Road in view of the rapid industrialisation of Kalinga Nagar area, they said.

The railway officials promised that the Railway Board would be recommended for stoppage of trains in these stations. It was decided that rest rooms for passengers will be constructed in Jajpur Road and Jakhpur Road railway stations. Besides, steps would be taken to shift the godowns in these stations and proper lighting arrangements will be made. Arrangements for drinking water will be made at both these stations.

Boundary wall of loading and unloading dump yard will be constructed and large-scale plantation around both these stations will be taken up. Secretary in the Commerce and Transport Department Satyabrata Sahu, Special Secretary Guru Ray, divisional railway manager of Khurda Road division Sanjay Kumar Garg and Korei MLA Priti Ranjan Ghadei attended the meeting.
